MUSIC & MEMORY - Elderly Mental Patients Revived By Hearing Music From Own Generation

I'm convinced that music holds the key to a person's youth.

Social worker, Dan Cohen has found a way to help nursing home patients suffering from dementia and Alzheimer's Disease.

He's begun to create personalized music playlists for them, and issuing to each, their own media player and headphones.

Henry zestfully explains his experience.
By staff interviewing, listing, then programming the music hits and favorites of their era, one may be virtually transported to that time, when they were young, sharp, and spry.

One patient, Henry, who was once despondent and aloof, now abounds with energy at hearing his own customized playlist.

Can you imagine your generation as elders?
Many nursing homes and assisted living communities have adopted this method of mental activity in their itineraries in more recent years.

Hopefully in the far future, there will be better and more immersive experiences that can be presented to us , that will help keep more alert and fulfilled, regardless of an aged physical state.

The media player is next best thing to time machine!
As for now, its a most beautiful hope to possibly eliminate these mentally debilitating illnesses that plague the senior citizens.

As for mine, I'll certainly be compiling my mom's favorites as she grows older, so she can easily rekindle memories of her 'hey-day' at the flick of a button.

Shall we all be so fortunate.

BONUS:
Witness an elderly gent, tossing away his own crutches when he hears his jam being remixed ("Rock Around The Clock") at his family reunion.

Proof positive that music indeed ignites the young-at-heart!
